The challenge
Our implementation services were required to deliver a national register for pollutant release and transfer in compliance with the E-PRTR regulation. The integrated system required access from facility operators, responsible ministry officers and the public. The major challenges faced by the responsible ministries were:
Opportunities
PRTR Cyprus delivers an online portal for facilities operators to submit their annual report data on pollutant releases, pollutant transfers and waste transfers. The system provides a tracking and approval centre, so ministries staff can approve submitted facility reports and submit consolidated annual reports to the European Commission.
An integrated content management system allows them to create content and publish useful information to the public on the PRTR Cyprus website. Website visitors can use a sophisticated search facility with a wide range of filters such as:
Search results can be viewed on a map, with historical data on emissions over the reporting years for each facility.
How we solved the problem
The content management and collaboration capabilities of IBM Notes & Domino were leveraged as a platform to build an integrated system that meets the needs of facility operators, ministry staff and the public.
The integration of Google services allowed the delivery of a customised map and the provision of graphical charts for historical emissions data.
